NYC Voter Arts & Culture Pledge
We, the undersigned voters of New York City, understand the importance of rebuilding one of New York’s greatest economic engines: Arts & Culture. When evaluating candidates for the New York City primary election, we will pay special attention to candidates' plans for Arts & Culture and we will only support candidates committed to revitalizing the Arts & Culture sector.
We will support candidates who demonstrate an understanding of the economic importance of the Arts & Culture sector, which employs more than 100,000 New Yorkers. According to the Comptroller’s 2019 report, the “Creative Economy” accounted for $110 billion in economic activity.. Every year, the Arts & Culture sector draws tens of millions of tourists who stay in our hotels, dine at our restaurants, and shop in our retail stores. The tax revenue generated fuels many essential services. The City’s economic future depends on a speedy revitalization of the Arts & Culture sector.
We demand our City’s leaders rebuild a more equitable, diverse, inclusive, and worker-focused Arts & Culture sector that is reflective of all five boroughs, providing funding, opportunities, and a cultural renaissance for every New Yorker.
We call on candidates across New York City to prioritize the Arts & Culture sector.
